Frequently Asked Questions
👋 About Me
Q: So… who are you then?
I’m Adam. Scouser, Dad of four lads, author, CQC Registered, Supported Living Manager, and lifelong Evertonian (don’t hold that against me). Basically, I wear a lot of hats - and usually forget where I’ve put them.
Q: What’s your story in one line?
I write books about people, run services that put people first, and try not to lose my voice at Goodison Park every other week.
Q: What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Family, football, and the fact that someone has to keep pushing for inclusion and fairness in social care. Oh, and if the dog starts whining, that usually does it too.
📚 Writing & Books
Q: What books have you written?
The Seat Left Empty - a novel about family, grief, and matchday rituals. It’s set around Everton but it’s really about love, loss, and carrying people with you.
Joe: A Moment at a Time - a children’s book about autism, acceptance, and belonging, told through three different perspectives.
Q: Do I need to support Everton to read them?
Nope. Everton’s in the background, but the stories are about people. You could support Liverpool, Tranmere, or even no one at all (if that’s possible) and still get something from them.
Q: Can I get a signed copy?
Yes, if you ask nicely. Best way is to message me directly through the contact button. I can scribble something heartfelt, funny, or just my name if you prefer.
Q: Are there audiobooks?
The Seat Left Empty is being turned into one as we speak. Watch this space - and listen to it too, obviously.
Q: Where can I buy your books?
Amazon only at the moment, or straight through me if you’re after that personal touch.
Q: What’s next on the writing front?
I’m knee-deep in a gothic historical series (The Hollows: The Theatre of Madness), expanding my football novel world, and working on stories that mix care, community, and Scouse humour. Basically, I’ve got too many tabs open in my brain.
👔 Work & Health & Social Care
Q: What do you actually do for work?
I manage supported living services for adults with a wide range of needs. It’s about creating communities where people feel safe, included, and able to live their best lives.
Q: Why social care?
Because people matter. Everyone deserves a chance to belong and be heard, and I’ve never been one to just sit back and let the system tick boxes.
Q: What’s your approach to leadership?
Be honest. Be values-led. Fight for what’s right, even if it makes you unpopular with the establishment. Care is about people, not paperwork (though sadly there’s a mountain of that too).
Q: Do you do talks or training?
Yes - I share my experiences around social care, leadership, inclusion, mental health, and resilience. And I usually throw in a story or two that makes people laugh.
⚽ Football & Everton
Q: How long have you supported Everton?
Feels like forever. My Mum, Dad and grandad were Blues, so it’s in the blood. I’ve been going regularly for over 30 years and hardly miss a game.
Q: What’s your favourite Everton memory?
Any win against Liverpool. Andrei Kanchelskis scoring, Duncan Ferguson’s headers, or last year’s 2-0. Pure magic.
Q: Do you actually base your books on real matchday life?
Absolutely. My routines, the chants, the banter, even the chips - it’s all in there. Fiction, but grounded in real love for the game.
🙋 Random Life Stuff
Q: How do you find time to do all this?
Badly. Honestly, it’s a juggle. I write late at night when the house is finally quiet, and I squeeze everything else in between family life and work.
Q: What inspires your writing?
My family, my work, my city, and the idea that stories can actually make people feel less alone.
Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
I once ate snake on a stick in Thailand when I was 11. Tasted like chicken. Won’t be rushing back for seconds though.
Q: How can people get in touch?
Use the contact page on this site, or find me on social media. If you see me at Hill Dickinson Stadium or Goodison Park, I’ll probably be the one shouting at the ref.
