🎧 Big News: The Audiobook is Coming!
Loads of you have asked me over the
past few months: “When’s the audiobook
out?” Well, I can finally say it’s in the
works. The Seat Left Empty is being brought to life in audio by the brilliant and ridiculously talented Charlotte Northover. Follow Charlotte and see her amazing content on the following platforms:

I’m buzzing about this because the book was always meant to be heard as much as it was read - the chants, the Scouse voices, the emotion of matchday, the quiet moments of grief. An audiobook lets you feel all that in your ears and in your chest.
It’s early days but the recording process has started, and it’s sounding better than I ever imagined. I’ll keep you updated as it moves along, but for now… just know that soon you’ll be able to stick your headphones in, go for a walk, and let the story carry you back to Goodison Park.
On the BBC
Live This
Thursday 25/9/25
This Thursday, 25/9/25 Adam Hardaker will be on BBC Radio Merseyside, where he’ll be talking about his writing journey and the stories behind his two books, The Seat Left Empty and Joe: A Moment at a Time.
The interview will dive into the inspiration for both books, how lived experience shapes Adam’s storytelling, and why themes such as inclusion, community, and belonging are at the heart of his work. Listeners can also expect discussion about the challenges and rewards of independent publishing, and the impact of sharing stories that reflect both everyday life and personal journeys.
The appearance marks another exciting step in bringing Adam’s work to a wider audience, with opportunities to connect not just with Evertonians, but with anyone who values stories rooted in real life and human connection.
The programme will air on Thursday, 12:20pm, and we’ll share the link to listen back once it becomes available.
Adam to Appear on BBC Radio
This week, Adam was invited onto BBC Sounds, for Jade Burns BBC Upload North West show to talk about his writing journey and latest projects, including The Seat Left Empty and Joe: A Moment at a Time.
The interview gave Adam the chance to share the inspirations behind his books, the local roots that shape his storytelling, and what’s next in his creative journey.
“It was brilliant to have the chance to chat about the books and the stories behind them,” Adam said. “I’ve always wanted my writing to connect with people, and being on the radio felt like another way to do that.”
The full interview is expected to air soon across BBC Radio Merseyside, Manchester, Cumbria and Lancaster, and we’ll share the link once it’s available to listen back.
The Hollows: Writing Underway
I’ve started work on my next project - The Hollows: The Theatre of Madness.
Its a gothic historical fiction set in an imagined Liverpool Asylum. Expect salt air, shadowed corridors and voices that refuse to stay silent.
Stay tuned for early snippets and behind the scenes notes as the story takes shape.
Joe: One Moment at a Time Launch Reflections
The response to Joe: One Moment at a Time has been incredible. Thank you to everyone who has shared messages, reviews and support. This story has been close to my heart and I’m proud to see it making it’s way into readers hands.
The Seat Left Empty Finds it Readers
Seeing Evertonians - and other fans as well as non football fans alike - connect with The Seat Left Empty has been a highlight of my writing journey. Its a book about grief, community as much as the Blues, and I’m humbled by the feedback so far.
